Author and Coach, Brandon Jenkins, writes about helping your team trust you. Image shows a person leaning against a wall, holding a newspaper and messenger bag.

Why isn’t your team bringing you ALL the issues?

Sure, they let you know when things are on track.

But what about the bad stuff?

How you consistently respond to news matters.

It influences your team’s trust in you.

Think back:

Has someone ever brought you bad news?

How did you handle it? Did you explode?

If so, it sent the message:

  • Mistakes aren’t for learning
  • Failure isn’t an option here
  • It’s not safe to take risks

Over time, that creates a culture of silence.

But teams thrive when they feel safe:

  • Safe to try new things.
  • Safe to fail—and learn from it.
  • Safe to speak up about challenges.

If your team isn’t sharing the news you need to hear,
the question isn’t, “What’s wrong with them?”

It’s: “What can I do differently?”

What do you think?
