Author and Coach, Brandon Jenkins, pictured on a sunny day in front of the water. He writes about avoiding the trap of not asking for help.

You’re falling into this trap: the I’ve-always-won trap.

You’ve excelled in every role, so:

  • You’re rewarded with more responsibility.
  • Those responsibilities keep coming…and coming.
  • You reach a point where you can’t do it all yourself.

Instead of asking for help, you’re powering through.

  • You think it’s a sign of strength, but it’s not.
  • And eventually, you’ll crash and burn.
  • Asking for help is a courageous act.

It shows:

  • Humility
  • Self-awareness
  • Situational awareness

Coaching is a powerful form of asking for help.

It can provide:

  • Outside perspective
  • A challenge to your beliefs
  • Support as you transition into your new role
